Ski Bum Picks
Okemo was founded in 1955 and officially began January 31, 1956. Its few trails were serviced by two Poma lifts. The lower poma cost 20 cents per ride while the upper one cost 60 cents. Today Okemo is one of the largest ski resorts in Vermont.
The base of Okemo stands at 1,144 feet above sea level with the summit at 3,344 feet. This gives Okemo the largest vertical drop in southern Vermont, 2,200 feet. It has a total of 119 trails spread across 632 skiable acres. Trail difficulty is almost evenly divided in difficulty. A paved road runs along the mountainside and is used as a ski trail in the winter but can be driven during the summer with parking spots for scenic viewing.
