Update 1/29: Light dusting of snow last night.
The Inside Edge
Rise and shine Okemo friends and family. It’s been a great start to the day with 1-2 inches of new snow on the ground. With temps staying low throughout the night, our crew fired away, making snow on Countdown, Jolly Green Giant, Sapphire, and Upper World Cup. Timberline and Defiance will both be on hold today for snowmaking.
85 trails and 10 lifts will be open today starting at 9 a.m. bringing you 496 acres and 33.5 miles of open terrain to explore and enjoy! Upper Mountain Road will be ungroomed while Upper Chief, Chute, and Lower Chief will be on hold for racing. This will not affect access to the AMP Energy Big Air Bag.
Currently the base temp is at 25 degrees and the summit at 16 degrees. We are expecting snow showers in the morning, becoming mostly sunny and temps 25-30 degrees with machine groomed/packed powder conditions.
For other news around the mountain, the Timber Ripper Mountain Coaster and Tubing Hill at Jackson Gore will be open today from noon until 5 p.m. So, come ride Vermont’s very first alpine coaster or slide down one of our three tubing lanes. Hours for the AMP Energy Big Air Bag today are 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
Have you ever wanted to take a ride in a snowcat? Well, now’s your chance! Our snowcat dining adventures are now being offered every Saturday through February (excluding February 18) in addition to Tuesday, February 14 and Sunday, February 19. Enjoy this truly unique experience by taking a snowcat ride from Jackson Gore up to Epic at Solitude for a five-course meal and a moonlight ride back at the end of your night. Call (802) 228-1642 to make reservations today! Look here for a sneak peek of the menu prepared by the one and only Chef Craig Cornell.
Also, here’s a fun fact to think about today. Did you know that each winter an estimated one septillion (1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000) of snow crystals drop from the sky AND it takes roughly one million little droplets to make one snowflake?
Enjoy the snow out there! See you out on the slopes.
